I remember my Uncle Jacob as someone who really loved children. When my mother, Mary Bell, died when I was six, I remember his coming to the house almost every day to play with the three of us—Daisy, Gerri, and me. He would play hide and seek with us, throw us in the front yard hedges, chase us around the yard, etc. He was very fun loving. If he could have had 20 children, I think he would have. He was just as happy with his family as he could be. He would come by the house every morning after he finished driving the school bus, his first job, to have coffee with Mut Dear. She loved herself some Jacob! She really depended on him! After he had his coffee he would, go to his “real” job as an electrician with Shipp Electric Company. He and his family lived in Baskin, La., about 10 miles from us and at one time he lived “over the slew”, another part of Winnsboro. He was in the Army during the Korean Conflict, I think it was. I have a picture of him in his uniform which I hope to get on the internet for you all to see soon. I really loved and missed my Uncle Jacob when he died. - Carolyn, Niece |
