Mary Bell

Mary Bell Brown

Birth: March 22, 1922
Death: May 5, 1950
Parents: John and Caroline Brown

I don't know that much about my mother because I was only six years old when she died.  However, others have told me she was a smart lady who loved to study and read.  She and my aunt, Ida Bell, were fraternal twins.  Thus, they had different personalities and likes and dislikes.  My mother had brown hair and my aunt had black hair.   My mother loved to study and my aunt was more fun loving.  So Mut Dear says she had just gotten a job as secretary to Dr. Felton Clark, President of Southern University, Baton Rouge, at that time, when she became ill and was unable to go to work for him.  Papa and John Henry, Jr., were both living and working in Baton Rouge at that time. - Carolyn, Daughter

Both were beautiful sisters.  They were fraternal twins; thus, they had different personalities and likes and dislikes.  Ida Bell was the more fun loving one; Mary Bell the more serious one.  Mary Bell was very smart as are many of the Browns and their offsprings. She graduated a few months ahead of her class, was out working and had to come back to graduate.  Back then high school only went to the 11th grade.  Both she and Ida Bell loved to clean the house.  Thus, they kept their own houses very clean. - Earline, Sister
